42,094 welfare aid recipients to receive extra RM100 for festivities

KUCHING: A total of 42,094 Sarawak Welfare Department’s (JKMS) monthly welfare assistance recipients across the state will receive an additional RM100 aid under the department’s Sejambak Kasih Raya Gawai 2021 programme.

The Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK) said a total of 15,471 individuals will receive the cash in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration, while 26,623 recipients will get theirs in conjunction with the Gawai celebration.

The contribution will be credited into the recipient’s bank account respectively. Recipients will also be given hampers.

On the monthly welfare assistance, the ministry said that from January up till this month, JKMS has channelled an expenditure of RM 20,102,900 to 50,618 of the monthly assistance recipients across Sarawak.

Meanwhile, the ministry informed that JKMS had provided food baskets worth RM10,961,747.76 to 821 areas placed under lockdown as of April this year.

The ministry said that 9,574 persons who are frontliners respectively have also received food packets.

It said that JKMS will continue to assist the government’s effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and this includes distributing food baskets to areas as well as longhouses placed under lockdown.

The ministry added that fire disaster assistance worth RM475,220 had been distributed to assist the fire victims as of March this year.
