KUCHING: It was the greatest Christmas gift for several families as a total of 34 newborn babies have arrived on Christmas Eve at Sarawak General Hospital.

In welcoming the Christmas newborns (16 boys and 18 girls), a matron of the labour ward said the earliest arrival was at 1.06am to a Bidayuh mother from Kampung Muara Tuang, Kota Samarahan.

“The baby boy, weighing 3.05kg, arrived after midnight,” she said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune.

Meanwhile, the last to be born on Christmas Eve, a 2.67kg baby girl, came into the world at 11.13pm to a Malay mother from Kampung Bintawa Ulu.

In Miri, while many were busy with their Christmas preparations, the maternity wards in Miri Hospital and Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) Miri were welcoming new bundles of joy into the world.

Seven babies were born in Miri Hospital, while BMC Miri welcomed two.

Out of the nine babies, five were boys (Miri Hospital). Both hospitals helped to deliver two girls each.
