KAPIT: A total of 43 infrastructure projects under the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) are presently at various stages of implementation.

According to the chief executive officer of Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, the projects are scattered throughout Kapit and Kanowit districts.

He disclosed this in a briefing during a meeting of the State Development Coordination Committee chaired by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Wednesday (Feb 1).

Ismawi said of these, one was in the detailed design stage; four in the process of creating tender documents and 28 currently being implemented.

The infrastructure projects include roads, bridges and water supply of which 10 have been completed.
After the meeting, the committee members visited the new URDA office site in Kapit where the first phase of its construction was recently completed.

It involved converting and renovating four shophouses acquired in 2020 into a single functional building.

Phase two will include interior design works, mechanical and electrical (M&E) works and the installation of loose furniture.

The building is expected to be fully operational by the third quarter of this year.

For the record, URDA was established in 2017 with an allocation of RM1.5 billion to implement high-impact projects in the Upper Rajang area and to spearhead the planning as well as development of the area.

During the recent URDA board meeting, nine subcommittees were created – each led by an elected representative from the region.

The subcommittees will address the challenges and issues in order to speed up the social economic development in the area.
