The aftermath of the early dawn fire that destroyed two slum houses and made 45 residents homeless.

MIRI: An early dawn fire tore through a slum in Jalan Miri-Pujut and razed two houses to the ground today (June 1).
 
The unfortunate incident rendered a total of 45 residents homeless during this Gawai festive season, casting a shadow on the joyous occasion and leaving hearts heavy with sorrow and uncertainty.
 
No injuries or casualties were reported among the residents as they managed to escape to safety.
 
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call pertaining to the blaze around 5.40am.
 
Firemen from Lopeng and Miri Central stations were promptly deployed to the scene, some 4km away.
 
On arrival, they found that the fire was raging and that the extinguishing deed had been performed.
 
It involved three slum houses, two of which were completely engulfed while the other was slightly damaged.
 
The team managed to bring the flames under control around 6.20am before conducting overhaul works to ensure that there were no embers left.
 
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation at 9.05am.

The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
