450 new cases on Friday as rate falls

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 450 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (July 30), a significant decrease from the previous day’s number of 582.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cumulative total number of cases was now at 76,243.

Kuching District accounted for 191 new cases; Samarahan (50); Serian (36); Bintulu (27); Simunjan (26); Saratok (25); Sibu (20); Asajaya (17); Tatau (13); Miri and Lundu (nine each); Kabong (six); Bau (five).

Three cases each were recorded in Kapit and Tebedu; Julau (two); and one each in Sarikei, Maradong, Betong, Lawas, Daro, Belaga, Subis and Pakan.

The SDMC said 297 cases were individuals who had close contact with positive cases and 67 were from active clusters.

There were 41 cases from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities and 42 cases from other screenings at health facilities.

There were also three Import B cases of individuals returning from other states in Malaysia, namely Labuan, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.

On another note, the SDMC disclosed that 158 patients were also discharged from hospitals and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC), bringing the number of active cases to 5,492.

Sixty-nine cases were from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC; Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) PKRC (25); Serian PKRC (13); Sibu Hospital and its PKRC as well as Miri Hospital and its PKRC (12 each).

Eleven cases were discharged from Betong PKRC; Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (six); Sarikei Hospital (four); Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (three); Mukah PKRC (two); and Sri Aman Hospital (one).

The number of recovered and discharged cases is now 70,119 or 91.97 per cent of the total number of cases in the state.
