455 dilapidated schools in Sarawak

A TOTAL of 455 dilapidated schools in Sarawak have been identified as dilapidated schools from 2017 to 2022, where 245 of them have been upgraded.

Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Dr Annuar Rapaee said there were 10 dilapidated schools in Murum where five school projects were in planning stage while the remaining were in process of implementation.

He said Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Gang had been completed in 2019 while SK Batu Keling and SK Ulu Kakus, which were under the RM1 Billion advance payment (for school projects) were now at 13 per cent and 47 per cent completion, respectively.

Meanwhile, SK Metalun was 12 per cent completed and SK Tegulang is in the tender documentation process. Both school projects were under 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).
Dr Annuar said in response to Kennedy Chukpai Ugon (GPS-Murum) on the number of dilapidated schools in Murum as well as the whole Sarawak during a question-and-answer session at the DUN sitting today.

He also said a total of RM30.5 million has been allocated for four school projects in Murum, which included SK Long Gang (RM3.3 million), SK Ulu Kakus (RM13.3 million), SK Batu Keling (RM5.9 million) and SK Metalun is (RM8 million).

“However, we don’t have the amount (which will be allocated) for SK Tegalung yet as the school project is still in the tender documentation process,” he said.
