KUCHING: The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching recently donated 48,000 surgical face masks to the Association of Wives Ministers and Assistant Ministers (Sabati).

The donation was received by Sabati president Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang and it will go towards Sabati’s Covid-19 pandemic relief causes.

His Excellency Cheng Guangzhong pointed out that China and Malaysia had stood with each other to address the challenges brought by the pandemic.

“During this pandemic, Sabati has provided numerous sanitation supplies, face masks, food and other necessary items to charitable organisations as well as to the people in need all over Sarawak. This is truly touching and heart-warming.

“We will never forget during the hard times when Covid-19 broke out in China, the Sarawak government, Chinese community and Sarawakian friends from all walks of life provided precious support to China in various ways.

“When the Covid-19 hit Sarawak, we also tried our best to help by donating medical supplies, sharing China’s experience and clinical protocols of treating Covid-19 along with sending a medical expert team to Sarawak and so on,” he said.

Cheng added that despite the unprecedented challenges, China had also made remarkable economic development.

“China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the year is growing by 2.3 percent and the country was the world’s only major economy to achieve growth.

“Our State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently said that the global fight against Covid-19 must not stop until the virus gets eliminated in each and every country.

“Everyone is obligated to help those in need even when there is only one case of infection left. Solidarity means strength and perseverance means victory. There is already light at the end of the tunnel,” he added.

On another note, Cheng pointed out that Sabati’s logo of a beautiful orchid fit its mandate.

“In China, orchid means elegance, virtue and benevolence. I believe it fits Sabati’s mandate that is to pass on warmth in coldness, send out light in darkness and let the fragrance of love fill the world.

“We may come from different countries, but love knows no borders. We will continue to make our humble contribution to social charity work and support Sabati so that we can pass on the love and warmth together,” added Cheng.
