KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Bunuk in the Puncak Borneo constituency can heave a sigh of relief as they now have 4G internet connectivity.

Plantations and Commodities Deputy Minister Willie Mongin said the village along with areas within a 2km radius will be able to benefit from facilitating online activities.

“I had promised in November last year to upgrade the telecommunication network in Kampung Bunuk. Now, this network has been upgraded to 4G.

“With this (improvement in) telecommunication coverage, I hope the residents of Kampung Bunuk can communicate better online,” the Puncak Borneo MP said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 28).

According to Willie, there are 75 towers in his constituency that are operational and 27 4G telecommunication towers approved under the National Digital Infrastructure Plan (Jendela).

“This will be tendered by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). In addition, we also have 16 additional communication towers from the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA); some of which have already been built.

“When all 43 telecommunication towers are operational, the village area in Puncak Borneo can achieve telecommunication coverage of 98 percent,” he said.

Willie said he will continue to work to ensure the people receive good and sustainable telecommunication network.
