4WD parked on road shoulder catches fire

A fireman spraying water onto the engine compartment of a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle to ensure the flames are completely doused.

KUCHING: A four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle parked at a road shoulder in Taman Thian Chiong, Off Jalan Airport in Kapit was slightly damaged after it caught fire early yesterday.

According to a statement by the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), seven personnel led by Senior Fire Officer II Perita from Kapit fire station rushed to the scene to douse the flames after they received an emergency call at 1.03am.

The department said the firefighters arrived at the scene four minutes later and took about 10 minutes to douse the flames.

“The operation commander reported that the battery of the 4WD was 100 per cent destroyed in the incident and no casualties and injuries were reported,” the statement said, adding that the operation ended at 1.21am.
