50 arrested in 36 illegal gambling raids

KUCHING: State CID chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar said he had intensified efforts to fight illegal gambling state-wide by rounding up dozens of illegal lottery and cyber gambling reload operators last week. He disclosed that from the 6th to the 12th of November, the state police conducted 36 successful illegal gambling raids which resulted in the arrests of 50 individuals.

Thirty-two of the raids were against sale of illegal 4D. The raids were conducted by teams from CID HQ and district CIDs as follows. CID HQ conducted five raids in Kuching, Padawan and Kanowit while Kuching (7), Padawan (6), Miri (4), Sibu (3), Sri Aman (3), Bintulu (2), and one each in Kota Samarahan, Bau, Sarikei, Lubok Antu, Limbang and Matu Daro.

“The 32 illegal 4D raids resulted in the arrest of 36 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM8,049, mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationery.

Apart from illegal 4D, 4 raids were conducted at counters offering cyber gambling reload services in Kuching, Padawan, Bintulu and Matu Daro which resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals and seizure of 14 mobile phones and tablets used for cyber gambling reload services.

Cash amounting to RM2,841 was also seized from the four raids,” he added.

Of the 50 arrestees, 34 were males while the rest were females.

They were aged between 15 and 49. Five of those arrestees were foreigners. Those ar res ted are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act, 1953.
