SAMARAHAN: A total of 500 land titles under Section 18 State Land Code (KTN) were granted to landowners here today.

Of the amount, 353 received ownership of land for agricultural purposes while another 147 received residential land titles.

Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif disclosed that 54,551 individual lots and 56,849 residential lots across Sarawak have been measured as of May 2022.

“As much as 54,551 individual lots throughout the state have been successfully measured for the issuance of land titles under Section 18 of the KTN including 353 land titles presented to recipients from Kampung Endap, Kampung Pinang and Kampung Tanah Puteh today.

“Meanwhile, 53,526 residential lots of the total lot measured have been issued their land titles. Of these, I also handed out 147 land titles to recipients from Kampung Endap,” he said at the presentation of land titles under Section 18 KTN (agricultural) NCR new initiative and land titles under Section 18 KTN (residential) ceremony here.

Len then said the issuance of the Section 18 KTN land title provided many benefits to the land owners. Among them are permanent holding periods. This means, the land owner has a permanent title on the land, is not subject to annual land tax including the cost of land measurement and the provision of land titles, but also exempted from land premiums.

He stressed that the state government has always recognised and defended the people’s rights on their NCR land if their claims are absolute and legal.

“Hence, through the new initiative of recognition and the granting of NCR land title proves that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is considerate and concerned about the people.

“The implementation of the traditional village measurement programme is also actively pursued to ensure the guarantee of title to the land of the villagers for old villages either in areas that have been gazetted as Section 6 Bumiputera Communal Reserves or vice versa,” he said.

Len Talif also emphasised that the new NCR Initiative Land Measurement Programme introduced in 2010 has a positive impact on the method of measurement that is rapid and fast.

He called on claimants who received a lot of measurements to continue their full cooperation to the Land and Survey Department so that measurement work could be carried out smoothly.

Full cooperation from the leaders, community leaders and NCR land owners is important to ensure that there is no delay to any development projects, he said.

Also present were Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang and Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang.
