5,000 expected at Women’s Day celebration on Aug 26

KUCHING:  5,000 people are expected to attend the  state-level  Women’s  Day  Celebration 2017 to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching  (BCCK) here on Aug 26.

The theme of this  year’s celebration  is “Sarawak’s Women In Sports”. 

Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, disclosed yesterday that the dress code for this year’s celebration would be corporate shirts or sportswear so that it would be in line with the  theme  of this year’s Women’s Day Celebration.

Fatimah also disclosed  that on that day, there would be activities like  flashmob dances.

According to her, during the celebration,  there will be a special performance  for 20 minutes and  the launching of the book entitled “ Sarawak Women In Sports.. their achievements, nation’s pride.”

Awards will also be presented to women sports personalities  and   sports organisations.

Five awards will  be presented on that day and the highest award will be the Datuk  Patinggi Hajah Laila Taib Personality Award.  The other awards will be the Chief Minister Award (Social), Chief Minister Award (Leadership), Chief Minister Award (Excellent Women Organisation) and Chief Minister Award (Special Achievement in Sports).

Fatimah said these awards would be in the form of trophies, cash and certificates.  The form of the highest award will be announced on the day itself.

Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg will be the guest of honour. 

There will also be exhibitions and opening of sales booths.  So far, 70 sale booths have confirmed participation with nine more empty booths left.
