5,000 for Sarawak Women’s Day celebration

KUCHING: A total of 5,000 participants, including women cabinet members and eminent personalities will be invited for the state-level Women’s Day celebration at the Kuching Borneo Convention Center here this Sept 28.

State Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Children’s Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the guests would also include parliamentary members, state assembly members, department heads, representatives of women’s organisations and students.

She said the state-level 2019 Women’s Day celebration is themed Women and Safety and will have Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, as the guests of honour.

Six awards will be presented to women for their contributions in various fields, namely the Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib Award, women’s social activist, women entrepreneur, women leadership, special award in security and the outstanding NGO award, she told reporters after chairing the 2019 Women’s Day celebration meeting at Wisma Wanita, Petra Jaya, here today.

She said a special book, ‘Sarawak Women in Safety and Security…In Good Hands,’ by a lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, Priscillia Pui Li Eng, will be published by her ministry in conjunction with the Women’s day celebration. – Bernama
