KOTA SAMARAHAN: Some 5,000 underprivileged members of the community here are set to receive food aid provided by the federal government.

Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang in announcing this said RM300,000 has been set aside by Putrajaya for all MPs to implement the Food Basket Aid.

However, Rubiah pointed out that the allocation given is projected to be short of accommodating all those who require assistance during the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

“Initially, the RM300,000 allocation is only for 3,000 recipients at RM100 per food basket.

“However, my team and I met this morning (Jul 6) and after further discussion, we have decided to extend the assistance to reach 5,000 recipients.

“The additional funds will be taken from the Kota Samarahan Service Centre,” she told the press after handing over food packs at the Kongsi Rezeki Community Pantry Programme held at Farley Supermarket, here today (Jul 6).

Rubiah said the food aid will be evenly distributed among three state constituencies under the Kota Samarahan federal constituency.

These constituencies include Stakan, Muara Tuang and Asajaya.

“We have also formed a special committee to handle the distribution of food aid in these three constituencies,” she added.
