51 compounded for flouting SOPs

KUCHING: Police have issued a total of 51 compounds to errant individuals for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public places.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the most compounds issued with 43, followed by Miri (three), two each in Simunjan and Kota Samarahan, and one in Sarikei.

“The police have also arrested two foreigners (Indian and China nationals) in Kuching for failing to adhere to the physical distancing,” it said.

SDMC added that a local man in Miri was arrested for violating the quarantine order by leaving the hotel.

On Sunday (Nov 22), 3,415 vehicles were inspected in 10 roadblocks set up throughout Kuching district. This brought the numbers of cumulative vehicles inspected to 102,006.

No vehicles were ordered to turn back and maintained the tally of vehicles ordered to turn back since Nov 9 to 613.

The Ministry of Local Government issued 150 verbal, written and seizure warnings at areas under the supervision of various local councils.

Under Ops Benteng, 1,436 vehicles were inspected at seven roadblocks in six districts — two in Lawas, and one each in Lundu, Bau, Serian, Sri Aman and Lubok Antu.
