KUCHING: A total of 51 students from the Project Management class batch 2017/2018 in Unimas took part in the community service learning project at Pulau Salak to promote the importance of environmental sustainability.
The “Kembara Ilmu” community learning project was officiated by Unimas’ Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni Prof Datuk Mohamad Fadzil Abdul Rahman.
“It showcases the importance of knowledge to ensure the sustainable transformation of the community in various aspects of life ranging from education, health, and environment,” said Fadzil in a press statement on Monday.
He added that the project would help to promote awareness and inspire the children in the community to acquire knowledge and be successful in their studies.
Fadzil also hoped that more such projects initiated by students could be organised for rural and remote communities.
The one-day project concluded with a big round of applause and a positive feedback from the local community.
Among the activities organised during the programme were a mini poster exhibition on the importance of knowledge from verses in the Quran and quotes from Prophet Muhammad, painting of a mural on the importance of knowledge, Zumba and a telematch for the children.
Present at the function were Penghulu Hj Wahid, Ketua Kaum Ismail, Dr Surena (dean of the faculty of Cognitive Sciences & Human Development), Dr Shahren (advisor to the project and director of the Institute of Borneo Studies) and Haziq (student and director of the Knowledge Exploratory Project).
