KUCHING: Food supplies were given to 5,138 families in Taman Samarindah currently undergoing enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang said the Taman Samarindah EMCO was one of the most difficult and largest to be conducted in Kota Samarahan.

She also praised the commitment shown by the disaster management committee since the start of the EMCO.

“The neighbourhood committee played its role as community secretariat in helping the disaster management committee administer and regulate the population during the EMCO,” she said on Tuesday (Aug 24).

Earlier, she presented contributions and allocations to the Taman Samarindah neighbourhood committee.

The donations and allocations were channelled to enable the committee to undertake the food distribution to a larger number of people.

Presently, the food distribution has been slow due to the large number of recipients and the number of donations from various parties.

Rubiah hoped that with the allocation, the committee in the community would be able to form a strong team and help the less fortunate residents and those with special needs.

Also present during the presentation of allocation were Samarahan district officer Anuar Daan and Samarahan Division social welfare officer Mohammad Yaakob Morshidi.
