56 compounds issued to SOP violators

KUCHING: Police have issued a total of 56 compounds to errant individuals for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public places.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Kuching recorded the most compounds issued with 48, followed by two each in Sarikei and Lawas and one in Betong.

“The police also arrested three individuals (two Indonesians and a local) in Kuching, for failing to comply with the SOPs when on a premises, which is physical distancing.

“Meanwhile, 16 motorists have been ordered to turn back for not having valid travel documents to exit and enter Kuching district,” he said at the daily Covid-19 update press conference.

The deputy chief minister said this brings the tally of vehicles ordered to turn back since Nov 9 to 169.

On Sunday (Nov 15), 9,109 vehicles have been inspected in 10 roadblocks set up throughout Kuching district. This brought the number of cumulative vehicles inspected to 52,514.

The Ministry of Local Government issued 98 verbal, written and seizure warnings in areas under the supervision of various local councils.

Under Ops Benteng, 1,007 vehicles were inspected at seven roadblocks in six districts — two in Lawas, and one each in Lundu, Bau, Serian, Sri Aman and Lubok Antu.
