MIRI: The police here will not compromise or tolerate motorists with registration plate number that do not comply with the regulations.
This was disclosed by Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari today (Sept 1) following the issuance of 56 summonses to vehicles for having fancy plate numbers during an ‘Ambang Merdeka’ operation held here on Monday (Aug 30).
A total 66 summonses were issued during the six-hour operation that were held at two separate locations in the city — Jalan Miri Pujut and Jalan Marina.

Hakemal said the these fancy plates are an offense under Section 14 (4) and Section 108 (3)(F) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Rule 6 (1) LN173/69.
Out of the 66 summonses, 10 were issued to those who have no driving licences.
