KUCHING: A Sarawak Skills-organised blood donation campaign drew 60 people who did their bit for charity here today.

Its Workforce Development executive, Dewi Khartini Bujang, 26, said since it was her first time she was a little nervous and excited at the same time about donating blood.

She said she didn’t really know what to expect but felt great afterwards, adding it was something she had always wanted to do.

Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune, she said since she often hears of patients needing certain blood types and hospitals not having enough of it she would gladly be a part of such blood donation event in the future.

Warehouse Assistant, Mohamad Shahril Shariee, 27, claimed there is a study stating that one instance of donating one’s blood can burn 650 calories, which in turn helps donors lose weight, stay healthy and slim, and prevent obesity.

“I have also donated blood more than seven times,” he said, pointing to these benefits.

According to medical staff, participating in blood donation will facilitate the well-being of others or even contribute to their survival.

Each donation has the potential to save up to three lives, thus underscoring the great importance of this event.
