60 SOP violators fined

KUCHING: Police issued 60 compounds to errant individuals for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the movement control order (MCO) on Sunday (June 27).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the most compounds with 22, followed by Bintulu (10), Lawas (10), Sibu (eight), Miri (three), Padawan (three), Saratok (two); Sarikei (one) and Kota Samarahan (one).

“The violations include being out in a public beyond past curfew without reasonable excuse (45); failing to scan the MySejahtera (six); failing to wear face masks (four); travelling between districts without permits (three); operating without permission (one) and violating the quarantine order (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued since Mar 18 last year to 8,434,” the committee said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing issued three compounds to business operators of premises under the supervision of various local councils, namely two compounds under the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and one under the Sibu Rural District Council.

The SDMC added that the businesses were violating SOPs such as failing to wear face mask (one); operating without permission (one) and failing to update the customers’ logbook (one).

This brings the total amount of compounds issued by local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 1,186.
