SIBU: A two-day immigration operation in Sibu and Mukah, resulted in the arrest of 64 foreigners including four women.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said that the operations dubbed ‘Ops Sapu’ and ‘Ops Gegar’ carried out on May 3 and 4, targeted various locations such as rental houses, entertainment centres, construction sites and shipyards.

Acting on complaints and gathered intelligence, the Sibu Immigration Enforcement Unit conducted the operations at Rantau Panjang and Jalan Oya areas in Sibu, as well as commercial premises in Mukah.

During the operations, the team inspected 77 foreigners for their documentation and 64 were taken into custody for committing various offences such as overstaying and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

The department pointed out that a shipyard area in Sibu had the highest number of arrests with 56 foreigners.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

In light of this, the department has urged both employers and foreigners to adhere to the law by applying for the appropriate permits to avoid legal consequences.
