More than 6,000 runners take part in this year's event.

MIRI: A total of 6,400 runners from 37 countries took part in this morning’s Miri Marathon.

Several major roads in the city centre were temporarily closed to make way for the event today.

The event features multiple race categories for different fitness levels and preferences.

The most prominent race is the full marathon, which covers 42.195 kilometres (26.2 miles), an actual test of endurance and stamina.

There are also shorter distances available, such as the half marathon, which covers 21.097 kilometres (13.1 miles), 10 kilometres (6.2 miles), and 5 kilometres (3.1 miles), making it accessible to a broader range of participants.

The flag-off for the 42.195km run was conducted by Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The race started at Jalan Merpati in front of the Permaisuri Imperial City Mall at 12 am.

The event takes in some of the city’s best known sites, including Dataran Kipas, beaches along Luak, Bakam, Lutong, and Pujut 7.
