652 new Covid-19 cases; lower than previous day

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 652 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Aug 6) – 107 cases fewer than the previous day’s 759. 

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cumulative total number of cases now stood at 80,174 while the death toll remained at 466.

Kuching District accounted for 231 new cases; Simunjan (84); Serian (65); Mukah (55); Miri (34); Sibu (31); Samarahan (22); Bintulu (21); Bau (20); Kanowit (18) and Tatau (17).

There were 12 cases recorded in Sri Aman and Selangau respectively; Lundu (11); six cases in Telang Usan; two cases each in Saratok, Sarikei, Subis, Beluru and Asajaya.

The districts of Betong, Meradong and Tebedu recorded one case each.

SDMC said 310 cases were individuals who had close contact with Covid-19 cases while 121  were individuals in active clusters.

There were 37 cases from screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities and 184  from other screenings at health facilities.

At the same time, SDMC disclosed that there were 680 patients who had been discharged from hospitals and low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) statewide, bringing the number of active cases to 6,858.

Of these, 355 were from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and its PKRC; Miri Hospital and its PKRC (154); Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (56); PKRC Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) (34); Bintulu Hospital and its PKRC (33).

There were 14 cases each from PKRC Serian and Betong; nine from PKRC Mukah; five from Hospital Sarikei and its PKRC; four from Kapit Hospital and its PKRC and one each from PKRC Lawas as well as Sri Aman Hospital and its PKRC.

“The number of recovered and discharged cases now stands at 72,671 or 90.64 per cent of the total number of cases in the state.”
