TEBEDU: A total of 66 individuals attended the interview session to obtain Malaysian citizenship status held in Kampung Kuhum Mawang here on Tuesday.

The two-day programme received encouraging response from the residents in the Tarat and Tebedu constituencies.

The initiative, coordinated by the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), National Registration Department (JPN), and Tebedu District Office aims to facilitate legal recognition for eligible participants.

Tebedu District Officer Joseph Liaw said the objective of the programme was to grant citizenship to individuals residing in Sarawak for the past decade, even if they lacked formal identification or had married locally during this period.

He explained that attendees must undergo an interview or screening by the JPN before being considered for Malaysian citizenship.

Additionally, the programmes were scheduled for Kampung Bunan Gega in the Kedup constituency on Wednesday and Kampung Batu Bedang on Thursday.

Also present were Penghulu Donny Achan, Penghulu Gaup Takip and village heads from nearby areas.
