68 summonses issued, three arrested during Ops Mabuk

KUCHING: A total of 68 summonses were issued and three people arrested for driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in an operation along Jalan Tabuan last night (Nov 25).

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the Ops Mabuk operation comprised three officers and 14 police traffic personnel from the Kuching Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division.

“During inspections on individuals, three male suspects aged 36 to 47 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Two of them were tested positive for alcohol using the evidential breath analyser. They consumed 51 milligrammes/100 millimetres and 150 milligrammes/100 millimetres of alcohol content respectively.

“They were investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while one suspect was found negative for alcohol and within the consumption limits,” he said.

Section 45A (1) provides for a fine of RM10,000 and not more than RM30,000 or imprisonment of not more than five years and driving licence can be suspended for up to five years if convicted when driving or maintaining a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration exceeding the prescribed limit.
