BALINGIAN: A total of 683 fishing enthusiasts from all over Sarawak took part in the Kaul Fishing Safari 2017 here, last Saturday.

This seventh edition of fishing competition, held in conjunction with Mukah Kaul 2017, bettered last year’s participation of 512 anglers.

It was organised by Press Metal Sarawak (PMS) in collaboration with the organising committee of Mukah Kaul Festival.

The fishing competition was held from 7.00am to 11.00am at PMS’ man-made lake, Tasik Cinta, located about 40 kilometres from Mukah town.

The participants, some came from as far as Lawas, had exceeded the organiser’s target of 600.

Meanwhile, Jeffery Hopace won the Ikan Patin Category with a 3.90kg fish to walk away with RM1,500 prize money and fishing gear.

First and second runners-up, Rasmo and Suparjo, who landed 3.14kg and 2.79kg fish respectively pocketed RM1,000 and RM700, plus a fishing gear each.

The Ikan Siakap/Pirana Category was won by Mohd Rahimi with a 1.18kg fish, along with the prize money of RM1,500 and a fishing gear.

The second and third place winners in the category, Epriadi (1.14kg) and Mohd Amirudin (1.12kg), received RM1,000 and RM700 respectively, and a fishing gear each.

The top three winners of the Other Fish Category(Ikan Lain-Lain), namely Rangkong ( 1.01kg), Erwin Goheb (0.85kg) and Sofian (0.690kg) took home RM1,000, RM700 and RM500 respectively.

The total proceed of RM8,550 from the event was donated to Mukah Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK Mukah).

Among those present during the competition were Balingian State Assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, PMS Deputy General Manager (HR) Low Kwong Fei, PMS Deputy Plant Manager Ngien Ping Lik, PMS Communications & Public Relation Manager Nina Melling and Mukah PDK chairman Rapiee Jaimin Yahya.
