7 arrested, 1 injured in brawl

MIRI: A fight that ensued inside an entertainment outlet in Permyjaya at wee hours of Saturday morning between seven men and the premises’ owner has left one wounded.

A police report on the incident has been lodged by the 37-year-old victim.

Following the brawl, seven men believed to have been involved in the 3am incident, were placed under police custody yesterday to assist in the investigation.

Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted, confirmed the arrest made.

All suspects, aged from 20 to 59 years old are currently being detained for questioning.

Prior to the incident, the suspects have ordered some drinks from the bartender in the outlet.

Unfortunately, when the bartender served and asks for payment, the suspects became annoyed and scolded the bartender who happened to also be the owner of the outlet.

The incident escalated, when one of the suspects began hurling glasses and punched the victim.

The offence is framed under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
