KUCHING: Seven foreigners were ordered to return back to their country after they were caught illegally entering Sarawak yesterday (May 24).

A joint patrol team from the Malaysian Army (TDM) and the Indonesian National Army-Land Forces (TNI-AD) intercepted the individuals at an illegal route near Biawak, Lundu, approximately 100 metres from the Indonesian border at around noon.

The patrol detained and inspected the individuals, who were found to be en route to work in Malaysia for contract or farm labour.

“The seven PATI, aged between 21 and 46 years, were found without any prohibited or dangerous items. The total value of their possessions, including cash, mobile phones, wallets, and clothing bags, was estimated at RM4,550.

“Following their detention, all seven were escorted to the national border for deportation. A police report was filed at the Lundu Police Station to ensure proper procedures were followed,” it said in a report today (May 25).

It was confirmed that this was the first attempt by these individuals to illegally enter Sarawak, as verified by their identification cards.
