70 attend SJA installation dinner

SIBU: Seventy journalists and family members attended Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) Installation and Pre-Gawai dinner at Li Hua Hotel here recently.

The function emony was officiated by Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce, who is also Second Minister of Finance Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Watt Zachaeus was sworn in as president with Earl Anek as vice-president and Florence Genta as secretary.

The function organising chairperson, Ruth Ampong took oath as assistant secretary and Yii Souk Ming as treasurer.

Speaking at the ceremony, Watt said that SJA will be holding various activities in conjunction with SJA 25th anniversary next year.
“This year SJA celebrates its 24th anniversary and next year, SJA will celebrate 25th anniversary. Therefore, we will be holding various activities to mark the anniversary of SJA,” he said.

Among the activities to be held, he said are SJA family day and mini sport, blood donation campaign, study trip to Johor Bahru, SJA Reporter Day and so forth.

“As the new president, I hope SJA will continue to be relevant in fighting for the welfare of its members as well as journalists in Sibu.”

“Therefore, we hope that with the reactivation of SJA Sub Committee, which comprises of Complaints Section and Welfare Section, it is hoped that it would be able to help the members and journalists in Sibu about the problems that they faced and voiced the issue to the SJA Sub Committee,” he added.

Watt also called on journalists in Sibu, who have yet to become a member of the association to register as a member.

He said a lot of benefit will obtained by the member if they become SJA member as SJA taking care of the welfare of its member.

“SJA has 42 registered members and is dedicated to elevating the media profession,” he said.
