72 compounds issued to SOP violators

KUCHING: Police have issued 72 compounds to errant individuals for failing to comply with the conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Sunday (May 23).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the most compounds with 44, followed by Miri (11), Padawan (eight), Bintulu (five), Kanowit (two), Mukah (one) and Sarikei (one).

“The violations include failing to practise physical distancing (62), no inter-zone travel permits (four), being outside without any reasonable excuse after 10pm (two), violating the home quarantine order (one), not wearing face masks (one), failing to scan the MySejahtera app (one), and failing to update the customer logbook (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued since Mar 18 last year to 6,762,” the committee said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has issued 16 compounds to business operators of premises under the supervision of various local councils.

Bintulu Development Authority recorded the highest compounds with five; followed by three each under Meradong and Julau District Council and Kapit District Council; two under Marudi District Council; and one each under Serian District Council, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council and Padawan Municipal Council.

SDMC added that the businesses were violating the SOPs such as failing to update customer logbooks (seven); failing to enforce the wearing of face masks (four) as well as the scanning of the MySejahtera app (one); a barber shop operator not wearing an apron and face mask (one); and failing to use the thermometer scanner.

This brings the total amount of compounds issued by local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 704.
