76 undergo swab tests after three students test positive

SIBU: State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing confirmed that 76 teachers and students of SJKC Tung Hua here underwent the Covid-19 swab tests on Monday (March 22).

Three students tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday (March 21) and subsequently, the school was ordered to close the following day.

“Seventy-six teachers and students from the same class were screened after having contact with the three positive students.

“The results will probably be released tomorrow night,” he said when contacted by Suara Sarawak.

At the same time, The Sibu Central Fire and Rescue Department carried out disinfection work at the school Monday morning.

Previously, SJKC Methodist was also ordered to close after one of its teachers tested positive for the virus last Thursday.

Two other primary schools, SK Abang Ali and SK St Mary, were also closed until March 26, because of their locations which were announced to be at high risk involving the Hilir Cluster and Jalan Awang Cluster.

Sibu District Education Office, in a Facebook post, revealed that the opening of eight primary schools had been delayed until March 26. They are SK St Rita, SJKC Sacred Heart Chinese, SJKC Uk Daik, SJKC Chung Sing, SK Sentosa, SK Sungai Durin, SK Ulu Durin Kiba and SK Sungai Naman.
