KUCHING: The Parentcraft Class held in a local hotel recently saw 80 participants, after the successful Buckle Up Baby Campaign to raise awareness on child safety seats in April this year.

Hosted by Kuching Specialists Hospital (KPJ) the event aimed to equip parents-to-be with knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to ensure the physical, emotional/psychological and social development of the child and family.

Giving birth does not have to be a scary, traumatic experience. Each and every pregnancy takes us on a unique journey and the journey of bringing a baby into this world is the most wonderful and miraculous event a woman encounters in her lifetime.

Parentcraft classes have helped many women prepare for birth and parenthood, especially in their first pregnancy.

The class was conducted in a multi-disciplinary approach, with a group of healthcare professionals working together to help, inform and support families within the local environment.

Topics covered during the class were ‘Hello Baby!” by Resident Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung, ‘Caring for a newborn’ by Resident Consultant Anaesthesiologist, Dr. Chen Chee Kean and ‘Baby Care Basis’ by the midwife from Kuching Specialist Hospital.

Besides that, the participants were engaged in an appropriate stretching exercise recommendation for pregnant ladies by the resident Physiotherapist.

All participants were warmly greeted and offered refreshments. Adding excitement to the event were attractive lucky draw prizes with a baby car seat worth more than RM 350 as the grand prize.

Also present at the event is KPJ General Manager, Nurhazimah Mahat.
