KUCHING: About 80 people residing at the upper reaches of the Bakun Reservoir Lake were vaccinated recently.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing has praised the government’s efforts in implementing the vaccination outreach programme in Bakun.

“Despite the great distance they had covered in the previous two days, the outreach vaccination team appeared to be in good spirits.

“What the Bakun Health Ministry (KKM) team portrayed is a reflection of what the rest of Sarawak KKM teams are portraying while carrying out their duties,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 4).

He expressed confidence that Sarawak will achieve 80 percent herd immunity by August if the federal government fulfils its pledge to distribute the vaccines to Sarawak.

Meanwhile, he stated that money is not an issue in Sarawak because the state has sufficient funds to purchase the necessary vaccines.

“Our main concern is whether or not the federal government will enable us to obtain or purchase the vaccines.

“I hope no political issues will interfere with our process in getting the remaining vaccines for Sarawak. This is crucial in order to keep all of us safe from the virus,” he added.

On Saturday (July 3), Masing and wife Puan Sri Datin Amar Corrine Masing paid a visit to Bakun where they met with the outreach vaccination team, led by Dr Peter Ronald Bihos.
