83 groups showcase innovations in SIC 2017

KUCHING: A total of 83 groups consisting of students, corporate bodies and private organisations participated in the annual ‘Sainsku Innovator Challenge (SIC) 2017’ to showcase their innovations.

According to the SIC 2017 programme coordinator Liman Anthony, the programme was known previously as the ‘Sainsku Science Fair’.  SIC 2017 has been re-branded to bring in new scopes which cover other fields such as technology and also engineering.

“Today, our students and participants will come out with their own innovative and original designs involving the sciences, technology, engineering and also mathematics (STEM).

“This is In line with education development plans that intend to produce competitive and innovative students to face the challenges of the 21st century,” said Liman.

He told this to reporters during the SIC 2017 programme held at SM Sains Kuching, yesterday.

SIC 2017 was launched by Tupong Assemblyman Fazruddin Abdul Rahman, followed by a visit to the participants’ booths.

The programme objective is to increase the interest and knowledge in STEM, improving their potential and scientific skills, softskills, and also collaborative skills among students and teachers.

The competitions were divided into groups consist of Form 1, 2, 3 and 4 students from SM Sains Kuching and it was jointly organised by i-CATS and SM Sains Kuching.
