MIRI: The Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) will distribute 84,381 free face masks to households in Miri Division.
The face masks, which were received on April 24, are being distributed to all district offices in the division in stages.
“Miri DDMC has also requested an additional 15,000 packs of face masks to meet the needs of Miri City due to the increasing number of households,” the DDMC said in a statement yesterday.
The distribution of 57,434 face masks in Miri district started last Saturday; constituencies covered are Lambir, Piasau, Pujut, Senadin and Mulu.
Meanwhile, Marudi district will receive 4,557 face masks;1,752 packs were distributed to seven villages since Sunday. Constituencies covered are Marudi and Mulu.
Apart from that, distribution of 5,302 face masks in Beluru district started yesterday and constituencies covered are Marudi and Telang Usan.
In Subis district, 11,008 face masks will be distributed beginning today. Constituencies covered are Kemena, Samalaju, Bekenu and Lambir.
Telang Usan district will receive 6,080 face masks.
In the same statement, Miri DDMC further explained the ongoing distribution of 57,434 face masks in Miri district would be managed by local community leaders and village chiefs (38,071 packs), local authorities, namely Miri City Council (17,507) as well as Miri Land and Survey Department (1,856) for squatter resettlements.
“The distribution will be done in stages and will take some time since Miri City especially has big residential areas,” it said.
Miri DDMC further advised the local community to continue complying with the movement control order (MCO) to ensure Miri Division was free from the Covid-19 virus.
“For those who have yet to receive the face masks, we hope you will be patient and cooperate to ensure that the distribution process will proceed smoothly,” it said.
