BETONG: Nearly 85 percent of the eligible people in the district here have been vaccinated against Covid-19 by July 1.
Betong District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Gerald Rentap Jabu revealed this after he inspected the vaccination process at the mobile vaccination centre (PPV) at the Nanga Mujau Health Clinic today.
“32,097 out of the 37,812 residents of Betong (district) have been vaccinated; 24,452 received their first dose while another 7,645 individuals completed their doses.
“The mobile PPVs not only help to speed up the vaccination process but also make it easier for rural villagers. They don’t have to travel to PPVs in faraway places.”
Rentap, who is also Layar assemblyman, added that for the Betong division as a whole, 68,395 out of 91,776 residents or the equivalent of almost 75 percent of the population had been inoculated as of July 1.
Asked whether the they (Betong DDMC) would use the “jab first, register later” method, he said they were still getting the list of unvaccinated residents from community leaders and the MySejahtera app.
“25 percent of the Betong residents have not been vaccinated as some areas are still undergoing the enhanced movement control order,” he said, adding that he hoped they would be vaccinated immediately after the Emco ended.
Meanwhile, officer in charge of the Nanga Mujau Health Clinic mobile PPV, Robert Ganya Browieng, said during the four days of operation, 730 residents around Ulu Spak were vaccinated.
