850 UiTM students feted at pre-graduation dinner

KUCHING: A total of 850 final year students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak Branch were feted during a Pre-Graduation Dinner.

The ceremony held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here Monday was to celebrate the students’ success before their graduation day.

Organised by UiTM Students Affairs, the ceremony also gave recognition to best students from every faculty, best overall winners for Bachelor Degree and Diploma Awards and also Best Sports Student Award.

The annual dinner was graced by UiTM Sarawak branch rector Professor Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali.

“Congratulations to the organiser for making this event a success and congratulations also to students who will graduate as their efforts have paid off.

“I wish to see more competition among the new generations in fulfilling the nation’s aspiration, especially among those in UiTM Sarawak branch,” said Jamil.

Jamil in his speech also reminded students to be more productive, skilful and competitive during this competitive era particularly after graduating.

“During this era of globalisation, there are many changes that are happening and those that will happen. Therefore, you must find a way to learn something new, change attitude and passive thinking and always work hard to get the best opportunity for yourselves.

“97 per cent of success comes from oneself, while the rest are from lecturers, classmates, environment, parents, friends and others such as supporting factors and encouragement to succeed.

“I urge future graduates to be alert with this kind of changes and make the best preparation in fulfilling the criteria and requirements of employers.

“I want our students not only to be respected and well-known with quantity but also become the best quality package,” said Jamil.

Meanwhile, the Best Overall Diploma Student Award was won by Anwar Azzam Ahmad Lukman, whereas the Best Overall Bachelor Degree Student Award went to Muhd Helmi Azman. Euphrasia Anne Cralis from Diploma of Sports Studies programme took home the Best Sports Student Award.
