KUCHING: A total of 8,500 Sarawak students have been sent home from their universities in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said efforts to bring them home started from May 1 by the federal government through the Higher Education Ministry (KPT), alongside the Sarawak Volunteers and Sarawak Communications Office in Kuala Lumpur.
“However, I was told there are still some students who have not been returned home due to unforeseen circumstances.
“For those who are still not home, God willing, we will work on bringing them home as soon as possible,” he said in a Facebook posting yesterday.
Fadillah, who is also Sarawak Volunteers patron, expressed gratitude to the parties involved in the process of bringing the students home.
“To all students, adhere to the directives issued by the authorities and quarantine yourselves for the determined period. Let all of us ensure the safety and prosperity of our family and our community around us,” he said.
