8,505 applications for KGC received

KUCHING: Some 8,505 applications have been received for the Sarawak Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) as at Jan 21.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said senior citizens from Kuching dominated the applications with 3,010 applicants.

This was followed by Sibu (1,641), Miri (873), Sarikei (686), Bintulu (583), Limbang (381), Sri Aman (378), Betong( 295), Kapit (282), Mukah (241), Samarahan (68) and Serian (67).

In recognising the overwhelming response for KGC initiative, Fatimah called for greater participation from the corporate sector, community leaders and local councils to provide more choices of services for senior citizens.

“The number of vendors participating in the programme increased from 24 to 31.

“We are very honoured for such overwhelming response from the public and vendors like MBKS in helping our ministry to distribute the form.

“And for those who would like to help us to distribute the form , please inform us at the ministry,” she said during a press conference after chairing the first meeting of the Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS) for Year 2020 yesterday.

Fatimah also said MWKS will organise Sarawak Women X: Global Innovative Entrepreneurship 2020 Symposium to coincide with the Women’s International day 2020 which is celebrated annually on March 8.

The symposium will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and will be graced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
