KUCHING: The one-hour time restriction for sessions at beauty salons has been extended to one-and-a-half hours.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this in response to a reporter who pointed out that some people had complained that the one-hour limit at beauty salons was insufficient.

Earlier, numerous operators and quarters had also expressed concern that certain procedures would exceed an hour and therefore, the restriction was impractical.

Uggah also said that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of churches would apply to all churches regardless of whether they were located in a shop lot premises or a separate building.

“The most important factor is we must make sure that the capacity is not more than 50 percent of the building’s capacity,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 daily update press conference on Wednesday.

Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman, pointed out that enforcement had always been a challenge, not only for churches but all economic premises as well.

“So, we have a committee and task force to do the monitoring. More importantly, I am appealing to all managements of these premises to play their role. Maintaining the SOPs is for their own good, for their families, and for their church members.”

He said that later on, most likely next week, SDMC would announce a community policing programme. He emphasised that winning the war against Covid-19 depended on the participation of all communities.

On another matter, when asked if salmon imported from China was safe for consumption due to Covid-19 issues, Uggah said the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak had been directed to first identify the cold storage importing not only salmon but other products into Sarawak.

“From there, we will then do some investigation,” he said, adding that discussions would be held with the State Health Department on how to monitor the situation.
