93 villagers get titles to land

MIRI: A total 93 landowners from Kampung Sebalik Tiris, Sibuti and Beraya settlement received titles to a total of 113.39 hectares of land on Saturday.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who graced the ceremony at Dewan Masyarakat Bekenu said the Sarawak government will continue to survey and issue land titles to native customary rights (NCR) landowners.

For Kampung Sebalik Tiris, Sibuti, today is the fourth phase of the land title presentation ceremony after a similar event on September and November 2021, where a total 193 land titles were issued to 135 landowners involving 210 hectares, he said.

For the ‘Operasi Kawasan Penyelesaian Beraya’ , which involved the Malay/ Kedayan community, a total of 1,677.61 hectares of land was surveyed and gazetted in 2017, and through this operation , a total 717 land titles were issued to 447 landowners in 2019 and 2020, and 270 land titles to 183 recipients on September and November last year.

In 2022, a total 47 land titles were registered to 42 landowners involving 62.33 hectares.

Tengah pointed out, that under Section 18 of the Land Code, landowners would not need to pay land premium or other fees and the lease is also permanent.

Having said this, he reminded landowners not to be easily deceived by the opposition saying the government would seize their lands.

e has also called on Sibuti constituents to rally behind Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Lukanisman Awang Sauni in this 15th general election.

“We need to give Lukanisman a bigger majority in order to have a stronger representation in parliament…with bigger and strong representation to secure Sarawak’s rights at the federal level,” he emphasised.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood ,and Community Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
