95% at Bintulu Port Authority are Sarawakians

Majang speaks at the August house

KUCHING: The Sarawak government holds 100 per cent autonomy over Kuching, Rajang, Miri, Tanjung Manis and Samalaju Port Authorities.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi (GPS-Samalaju) said under the state government’s policy that port authorities in Sarawak need to be managed by Sarawakians.

The Bintulu Port Authority, Majang, said it is a federal statutory body under the jurisdiction of the (federal) Ministry of Transport.

“On employment matters, all management and operation posts in Sarawak port authorities are now filled by Sarawakians,” he said this when responding to Tanjung Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang questions during the fourth day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

On another supplementary question on how many personnel are serving in Bintulu Port Authority, Majang said there are a total number of 124 personnel with 29 at the management and professional level and 95 supporting staff.

Out of a total number of 124 personnel, he said 118 or 95.2 per cent are Sarawakian.
