96 summonses issued in Ops Selamat

KUCHING: Traffic police recently set up a roadblock to check on motorists at Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub in conjunction with Ops Selamat Christmas 2019.

In the operation, which took place on Friday at 9pm, police issued 96 summonses to road users for various offences in just two hours.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief DSP Bingkok John, when met during the operation, said the team of four senior officers and 32 personnel checked 259 cars, 80 motorcycles, 23 four-wheel drive vehicles, 31 multipurpose vehicles (MPV) and six three-tonne lorries. 

He added that 28 individuals were also checked, however, no arrests were made.

“The objective for this operation is to detect traffic offenders (those driving under the influence of illegal substances) as well as raise awareness among the public on the importance of adhering to traffic laws,” Bingkok said.
