KOTA SAMARAHAN: Over 5,000 residents from 980 families at Kampung Baru, Samarahan, who have been undergoing the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) since Friday, have received food aid.

The food aid was a contribution from the state government through the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package.

The Kota Samarahan Service Centre in a Facebook post on Monday (June 14) said the food aid was delivered to these residents starting Sunday.

Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang said she always received the latest updates regarding the implementation of the EMCO in these affected areas since the first day of enforcement.

She said they were still waiting for the results of the Covid-19 screening tests conducted through the active case detection (ACD) operation which lasted four days at the Kampung Baru Mosque compound.

On another matter, she said that they were cooperating with the Samarahan Division Health Office in efforts to establish a drive-through Covid-19 screening centre which would begin operating in the near future.

Rubiah said the sharp increase in positive cases in Samarahan had spurred her team as well as the health authorities to act aggressively in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the area.

This included creating another Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) at Rafflesia College, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas); vaccination centre (PPV) at DeTar Putra Unimas; and the establishment of the drive-through Covid-19 screening centre to enable more potentially infected residents to be screened immediately.
