LUNDU: The Salcra Bajo Training Centre, here will be the battleground for the 11th Malaysian National Taekwondo Championship (WTF) from Oct 18 to 20. About 800 athletes, officials and referees from various countries and clubs across Malaysia will vie for honours in the tournament. The Malaysian Federation of Taekwondo has given full trust to the Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF) to host the prestigious tournament.

The poomsae event will start on Oct 18 to be followed by the Kyorugi event on October 19 and 20. Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will officiate at the opening the tournament on Oct 19 while the closing ceremony will be officiated by Tanjong Datu assemblywoman Datin Patinggi Jamilah Anu on Oct 20.

According to WTF president Azizul Annuar Adenan, the tournament promises something exciting as it is being held in the northwestern part of Sarawak, a small and unique town. “As president, I am very proud that members of the state association committee have taken bold steps and worked hard to hold a national event in Lundu,” he said. “This is an important event for us in the taekwondo fraternity.

“Once again we gather from different places across the country for this national event,” he said. “With the spirit of goodwill and harmony, WTF Sarawak will also showcase our rich and unique heritage,” Azizul added. “In promoting this sport, we will do our best to contribute in any way possible and improve the standard of the sport,” he said. He said the tournament was also an arena for athletes to exchange experiences and ideas to enhance their skills.
