KUCHING: Majority of Kuchingites viewed that the annual Kuching Festival organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) should be put on hold this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng created an online poll on his Facebook page yesterday, asking people whether it should be organised this year.

As of 6pm yesterday, 1,900 took part in the survey and 96 percent responded that the event should not be held first until the pandemic is eradicated.

A netizen in the comments section replied to Wee’s post, saying, “I suggest to not go ahead with the Kuching Festival first, but maybe funds collected from companies and sponsors could be used to help needy families affected by this pandemic.”

Another person suggested that the local council could organise an online food festival instead and the food can be delivered to customers using food delivery services.

Kuching Festival is one of Sarawak’s most anticipated and popular events. The event not only attracts locals but also tourists from other countries.
