Attend to all complaints: Minister

KUCHING: All complaints from the ground forwarded to the Ministry of Utilities must be attended to, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

Stressing on the importance of responding to complaints, Dr Rundi advised the agencies and related personnel under the ministry to professionally process and administer the complaints received from the public and consumers, providing them with the best service in problem solving.

“Whatever issues coming from the ground, whatever complaints that we received, please attend to them diligently.

“Whether it is truthful or otherwise, we have to verify it. If the information is wrong, then correct the informer and process the matter respectively,” he said when officiating at the Utilities Ministry’s Excellence Service Award presentation ceremony at Imperial Hotel here on yesterday.

He further reminded his staff that there were people who would always try to stir up issues at any corner even though the matter was not even their responsibility.

The ministry is currently in the midst of preparing its manifesto by checking its ‘report card’ throughout its term from the previous manifesto during the last parliamentary election, he pointed out.

“We cannot simply open our mouth and say this is what we are going to do without checking what we have done and achieved.

“We have to be realistic about what we can deliver and how long it takes for us to deliver. If we promise the moon, it is like asking for trouble,” he elaborated.

An effective government depends on how it manages the efficiency in utilities for the people, Dr Rundi said.

Although such matter was challenging to fulfil, he advised his staff to remain prepared and work hard as a team to take up tasks assigned to them in order to deliver the best services to consumers.

At the event, the Kemena assemblyman presented the excellence services awards to eight staff of the ministry who had been providing excellence performance throughout the year 2019.

Also present were the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling, Electricity Supply director Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab, Water Supply director Cho Kwong Ming, Gas Distribution director Dr Martin Anyi and Management Services Division acting chief Pauline Bret.
