KUCHING: Two deaths related to Covid-19 in Sibu were reported on Sunrday (Jul 25), bringing the death toll in Sarawak to 457.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the first death is Case 456; a 60-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 on July 20.

The case did not have any history of comorbidities and the remains were brought to Sibu Hospital.

The second death is Case 457 — a 59-year-old man who tested positive on July 8.

SDMC stated that the man had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease. The man passed away in Sibu Hospital.

On Sunday (Jul 25), Sarawak recorded a total of 407 new cases, bringing the number of cumulative cases in the state to 73,986.

The district of Kuching recorded 198 new cases, followed by Serian (38), Samarahan (34), Sibu (23), Bintulu (17), Simunjan (15) and Mukah recorded nine cases.

Miri, Saratok and Bau each recorded eight new cases, while Lundu and Telang Usan recorded seven cases each.

Six new cases were also recorded each in Meradong and Sarikei; five cases recorded each in Beluru and Subis; and the district of Song recorded four cases.

Apart from that, Kapit has three new cases, Asajaya and Kabong recorded two cases each, and Tatau and Tanjung Manis each recorded only one case.

Out of the total, 286 people had close contact with positive Covid-19 cases and 16 people were reported to be from active clusters.

SDMC also added that 44 were symptomatic individuals from screening tests at health facilities while another 60 were from screening tests at various health facilities.

There is only one Import B case reported where the case tested positive after coming in from Melaka.

Meanwhile, the committee also stated that 199 cases had recovered and were discharged from respective hospitals and quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs).

The cumulative number of recovered and discharged patients now stands at 68,900 (93.13 percent).

There are still 4,459 active cases undergoing treatment at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state.
