KUCHING: The Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Al-Marhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj has called for continuous empowerment of women.

Her Majesty noted that half of Sarawak’s 2.6 million population are women, and the country must also remember that half of the women are voters.

“So, we need women’s power to establish a government, and if the women do not go out to vote, that’s it.

“We must remember that we, women, play a major role in any government and it’s about empowering women,” she said in her opening remark at the 13th Associated Country Women of World (ACWW) Area Conference for South East Asia and The Far East at Grand Margherita Hotel here on Tuesday (July 5).

Her Majesty said that it was her third time gracing the ACWW area conference since 2004.

She also took the opportunity to thank the Sarawak government for supporting the organising of the conference.
